Michoacán Government

The "State Plan for Development" pertinent to the current period of governor Cardenas states that his is a plural government, which respects people without prejudice of race, gender or social condition, and which will not make publicity on behalf of his party through the public works to be executed. Regarding the gender issue, local government created a special entity for the prevention and enforcing of crimes related to Family Violence, for it is widely known that 90% of all sexual offenses are committed against women, and in the majority of the cases by men belonging within the circles of family and close friends. Another state institute created for the protection and welfare of women, the "Instituto Michoacano de la Mujer", campaigns intensively on behalf of women's rights, and the state´s offices and departments are modifying certain policies which allow female employees longer vacation time after giving birth and breaks for breastfeeding. Also, several new nurseries are now available for the care of children in the care of women working for the state.
