The Train of the Maya Route (Expreso Maya)

There is a train that travels across the maya route, it is called the Maya Express. This wonderful train tours through the main colonial cities of Mexicoâs southeast and the most important ceremonial centers of the Maya culture. It stops at Villahermosa, Campeche, Mérida, Palenque, Uxmal and Chichén Itzá.
This train offers a tour to enjoy the wonderful landscapes of exotic flora and fauna through its panoramic windows. These ample and comfortable railway cars have air conditioning, safety windows, environmentally safe toilets, high quality audio systems and various safety enhancements. The Maya Express consists of four railway cars for passengers with a capacity of 64 seats each: Uxmal, Tikal, Calakmul y Chichén-Itzá.
The Club-Bar car is where you can enjoy refreshing drinks and listen to a conference about Maya culture. In the library you can also enjoy many books about the Maya archeology and traditions. The walls of cafeteria car âCampecheâ display images remembering the pirate era, stars of Campecheâs history, now a city considered by UNESCO as World Heritage.
The Maya Express takes its passengers with comfort and luxury to visit the main destinations of the Maya world. Merida was considered in the year 2000 as Americaâs Culture Capital. Merida is known for its majestic buildings and exquisite cuisine. Izamal is one of the oldest cities of the Maya culture, characterized by its splendid colonial constructions. In its Convent of Saint Antonio de Padua, constructed in the XVI century, there is an atrium considered the largest in America.
Chichen Itzá means âmouth of the wells of the water wizardsâ and it was one of the most important cities during the era of Mayan peak. Outstanding among its imposing architecture is the 55 meter high building called The Castle, constructed with the purpose of preserving peace and be true to the wishes of natureâs gods.
Uxmal or âthe three times constructedâ was very important during the early era of Maya culture due to the great economic and administrative power it reached. Campeche, World Cultural Heritage, has forts that protected it during pirate attacks. During the night, at the Campechana wall you can enjoy a light and sound show.
Palenque is an important archeological zone of Mayaâs peak with the imposing constructions of the Inscriptions Temple, the Great Palace and the Observatory, surrounded by an exuberant jungle.
