Where to Go / What to Do in Playa del Carmen

BEACHES
Like most places on the Riviera Maya, the beaches have white sand and a turquoise sea in the center of tropical lands, the main attractions in Playa. Compared to other cities like Cancun, here you can enjoy less crowded beaches due to the recent fame of this young city.

WATER SPORTS AND MARINE LIFE
An incredible ocean and its exceptional flora make water sports an excellent pastime. You can enjoy scuba diving and jets skis or a ride on a yacht. You will also find an extraordinary coral reef where you can scuba dive or snorkel among many marine animal species in their natural habitat.

COBÁ
With more than 80 squared kilometers of constructions and ruins, this archeological site located between two lakes, was constructed thousands of years ago and has the highest pyramid in al the peninsula reaching 42 meters.

XEL-HA
A complex of restaurants, showers and dressing rooms it was constructed it is built on what is considered the largest natural aquarium in the World. It not only offers interaction with thousands of species of fish, but also several cenotes (Mayan name for wells), caverns and famous ruins.

SIAN KA'AN BIOSPHERE
Also known as the place where the sky begins, this natural reserve of 530 hectares formed by lakes, springs, cenotes, coral reef and tropical vegetation, offers and opportunity to interact with many animals.

CENCA DE PLAYA
Near Playa you can also visit:
- Xcaret: enjoy nature, swim with dolphins, see incredible butterflies, an aquarium, Mayan shows, and scuba diving and enjoying wonderful coral reefs, these are some of the attractions.

- Chichen Itza: the most visited Mayan Ruins can be found 170 km from Playa del Carmen. It is believed to have been the most important regional Mayan capital from 750 to 1200 A.C.
