Puerto Peñasco, One of Mexico's hottest Developments

Puerto Peñasco is a beautiful bay and beaches uniting with Sea of Cortez; at the beginning of the 30’s it was only visited by adventure seekers and fishermen but has recently been discovered for tourists. It is located on the northeast coast of State of Sonora. It has an annual average temperature of 70°F and a mainly dry-warm climate, with winter rainfall.

It is the communion between natural beauty and environmental development. Surrounding it are areas of great extension as the Great Desert of Altar, where the population of endemic species as the mule deer and bighorn sheep are being researched. In Puerto Peñasco you can sandboard and hike. The bay offers the opportunity to practice sports such as diving and fishing in San Jorge Island, a formation of chalk origin with a coast that offers a great diversity of marine species like sea lions, dolphins and the famous vaquita. On Puerto Peñasco’s beaches there are miles of clean sand and warm water, a great attraction for visitors. You can practice jet skiing, boat riding, fishing, sailing or simply enjoy a relaxing stroll on the sand.

Puerto Peñasco also offers tourists a biosphere reserve known as El Pinacate, for visitors who enjoy nature, the ancient volcanoes, great craters and vast lava extensions make this beautiful place a wonderful site for vacationing and learning more about nature. The CER-MAR aquarium is a sea research center that opens its doors to tourists and residents, where diverse marine species can be observed, such as sea turtles, octopuses, sea horses, numerous fish species and creatures found in the depths.

From the port visitors can journey through the missions of Caborca, Atil and Pitiquito, founded by Friar Eusebio Kino. You can enjoy upon return an exquisite dinner with the region’s typical cuisine, such as Costa Brava Shrimp, before ending the day with a visit to the bars and night clubs of the port, you will surely enjoy the hospitality and warmth of its people. Puerto Peñasco offers an infrastructure of more than 70 restaurants, 42 hotels and motels with 2,012 rooms; as well as 14 parking lots with 1,435 spaces for motor homes.
