Campeche Demography

The 2006 census registered a population of 754,730 inhabitants in Campeche, with an almost even distribution between men and women. 40% of its population is younger than 20 years old, and life expectancy reaches 74.5 years in average, the same as the national rate.
Despite its Maya origins, only 13,5% of its people speak an indigenous language, and most speak Spanish as well (85%). The main indigenous languages are Maya, chol, tzeltzal, kanjobal, and mame, but others are also spoken.
70% of the people declare themselves catholic and 10 % say they have or practice no religion.
