Hidalgo Government
The governor is assisted in his duties by the General Government Secretary, the Finance Secretary, the Administrative Secretary, the Secretary of Planning and Evaluation , the Secretary of Industrial Promotion , the Secretary of Industrial Development , the Secretary of Commercial and Tourism Development, the Secretary of Education and Culture, the Secretary of Communications and Public Works, the Secretary of Urban Development and Ecology, the Secretary of Rural Development, the Secretary of Municipal Development, the Auditor Generals Office, the Office of the Public Ministry, the Secretary of Public Safety, and the coordinator of Social Communication. Worth of mentioning is the fact that three women are part of the state
cabinet, something very unusual in Mexico, as heads of important dependencies, in addition to the posting of the governors wife as president of the DIF, a department known as the "National System for Family Integral Development".
One of the main objectives of the current government is to tackle the high degrees of poverty and isolation suffered throughout the state, and this effort becomes evident as Hidalgo is in fact the leader nationwide in taking advantage of a federal support offered via the so-called "Opportunities Program", and also for implementing actions towards social development in the states poorest communities through programs for feeding and nutritional support, making emphasis on the health and welfare of breast-feeding mothers and their newly-born infants.
As part of the same objective and strategy, the government of Hidalgo invests considerable efforts regarding the education of the people. Once again, statistics report positive results as the state is the entity with the highest standards in terms of labor competitiveness, so much so that the pertinent department , the state Institute for Labor Training, obtained the ISO certification 9001-2000 in July of 2007, due in part to the amount of people it trains in relation to the state population.
