Where to Go / What to Do in Santiago de Querétaro

The historic capital of Queretaro has played an important and relevant role in the life of free and independent Mexico. It has been birthplace of the reunions of conspiracy against the Spanish emperor, place of the signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo giving end to the North American invasion, tomb of the invading emperor Maximiliano de Habsburgo, murdered in the Cerro de las Campanas, and capital of the Mexican Republic during the presidency of Venustiano Carranza and the political Constitution of 1917.

On your visit to this antique and magical city, you must visit the Historical Center of the city, declared ¨Cultural Patrimony of Humanity¨ by the UNESCO, where the Plaza de Armas is found, the Casa de la Corregidora, la Casona de los cinco Patios, the Episcopal Expalace, the Cathedral, the Temple of Tersitas, the Temple and Exconvent of San Francisco, the Theatre of the Republic (also where our national hymn was first sung), where Maximiliano de Habsburgo was sentenced, where the Political Constitution of Mexico was made in 1917; and much more.

REGIONAL MUSEUM OF QUERÉTARO
This museum is a tower that crowns the first convent constructed in 1541 for the order of Franciscans that arrived to evangelize the Queretaro Indians. Its sober decorative style shelters a great picturesque content from the XIX and XX centurias, rescued by the armed battles that the convents suffered during the confirmation of modern Mexico. It also has objects and documents that hold the history of the entity and the greatest Queretaro inhabitants.
