In Monterrey the Institute of Technology and of Superior Studies was born, today considered the best university of private initiation in all Latin America. It currently has a campus around all the Mexican Republic.

Another university of great quality is the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon, a public university with 5 campuses inside the entity.

The Universidad de Monterrey, Universidad Regiomontana, Universidad del Norte, Universidad Ateneo de Monterrey, Universidad Metropolitana de Monterrey y el CEDIM offer courses in higher education and masters on its campus located in Monterrey and the metropolitan area.
