The most renowned Mexican graffiti artists

One of the most common manifestations of urban art is the graffiti on the walls, though this genre is quite discriminated by society, in recent times it has acquired some recognition and led to curious phenomena in art as it is "collecting" of fences. Contrary to what we could think, make pints on the walls is not something new, although the appearance of the spray paint has triggered the massive phenomenon. Nevertheless, according to diverse studies graffiti is even older than Christianity, and there is evidence of its existence two years B.C.

Although in many cases Graffiti is still illegal since it is done over other people's or public property,  in this moment we cannot speak of tolerance but of encouraging this movement both in the government and the public atmosphere. One of the best examples of how to do this is the contest organized by the comisión nacional de agua, which awards the best graffiti-themed water over time. In this list we mention some artists that stand out painting:

1.-Saner

With this nickname is known Edgar Flores, visual artist and illustrator whose work has been carried to exhibitions in Europe and the United States. It should be noted that not he is not only dedicated to graffiti, but also paints and draws. He recognizes to be strongly influenced by the comic, pop culture, Mexican traditions and advertising. He was born in Mexico City. Much of his work can be appreciated on his own website:

2.-Trasher

Another well recognized urban artist, whose work has gone so far as Argentina. He can easily be contacted by his page on Facebook and performs artistic commissions, but usually has a busy schedule. He graduated from the National School of Plastic Arts, and brands like Nike and Absolut have commissioned him several works. Interestingly he works more using the brush and paintbrush than the paint spray. To see his work the following link is useful:

3.-Seher

A good designer and artist (although he also has studies in communications) who has worked with various brands such as Volvo, Casio and Disney. His website has many photographs of the works he has done in places like Vancouver, Guanajuato and Monterrey. It is a big fan of the football team of the UNAM (pumas), calls his work a little bizarre, judge for yourself on his twitter page:

4.-Irving Cano

Born in the state of Oaxaca, and although he studied computer systems later, when he incorporates into the working life discovers his love of painting. It stands out because he seeks to represent more the Zapotec culture and its elements than the fantastical, creatures or pop themes that others portrait. He uses both spray and brush and was invited to participate in a rescue project and remodeling of the streets of Dubai. On his Facebook page we can see his work and the products that his company handles:

6.-Sego y Ovbal:

The theme and style of his work often portrays Mexican elements such as cricket or mild prehispanic features of his paintings. He is also from Mexico City, his works have been exhibited in galleries in Mexico, France, Cuba and Argentina. Mainly nature and fantastic creatures are the topics used by him. I suggest visiting his blog:

7.-Said Donkins:

The visual artist who answers to this name, is also a graduate of the UNAM, in the mayor of philosophy and letters but also has degree course in visual arts at the National School of Plastic Arts. His first surveys date from 2001, when he won the first place in the Festival of Graffiti Telmex. He is perhaps the most international of the listed here because has exhibited in Argentina, Australia, Colombia, Germany, Prague, Chile, Netherlands, United Kingdom and United States. He not only uses the graffiti, but also calligraphy, performance, installation and video art. Much more information can be found at:

As a final note it should be noted that most of these artists like more to be known by their nickname  instead of their first name. We must also say that in fact few of graffiti in general are really artistic, being simply vandalism in some cases. Yet this art has much to offer and the fact that other countries have awarded these Mexicans, gives us an idea that this means of expression and culture has much to give to society.
